All through the years, the CITY of TAMPA  and the TAMPA BAY metro area, have each been recognized by various organizations, websites and influential individuals as among the best, if not the best, cities or metro areas in Florida and across the U.S.

. Tampa is No. 1 Hot Spot for New Residents in the U.S.
It’s ranked by Realtor.com based on 2009-2013 migration data from the Census Bureau, cross-
metro relocation data from Moving.com and cross-metro search traffic data from realtor.com.

. Tampa Bay Metro Area is a Global Cities Initiative Planner

Tampa Bay is one of only 5 cities or metro areas chosen to develop a foreign direct
investment plan through the Global Cities Initiative.
The initiative is a joint project of the Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase
The other cities are Baltimore, Fresno, Houston, Salt Lake County and St. Louis.

. Tampa is the 14th-Best-Place to Own a Home
It’s ranked by Porch.com based on a survey of 10,007 homeowners across the U.S.

. Tampa Bay is the Most Cost-Friendly Large Metro Area in Florida
The Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater has the lowest Cost of Living Index (COLI) among
Florida’s major markets and second lowest COLI in Florida.
COLI is 92.3, almost 8 percent lower than the national average.
It’s ranked by the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp. (EDC) based on COLI data in
the first quarter of 2016.

. Tampa is the 3rd Best City for Staycation
It’s ranked by Wallet Hub based on 28 metrics that include number of restaurants, zoos,
aquariums, water sports facilities, spas and wellness centers. The best and second best are
located in Florida — Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. Nearby St. Petersburg is No. 9.

. Tampa Bay is the 55th Best Metro Area for Women-Owned Businesses
WalletHub ranked 100 large U.S. metro areas using 10 metrics that include women’s business
centers and average revenue growth of women businesses.

. Tampa is the 15th Best City for Valentine’s Day
WalletHub compared the 100 largest cities using 15 metrics that include number of attractions,
restaurant-meal costs, number of jewelry stores and nightlife options.

. Tampa is the 4th Best City to Get Married
WalletHub compared cities based on 18 metrics that include wedding costs, wedding facilities
and services and attractions and activities.

. Tampa Bay is 22nd Best Summer Destination
WalletHub ranked the 80 largest metro areas in the U.S. based on 30 metrics that include
attractions, weather conditions and travel costs.

. Tampa is the 47th Best City to Start a Career
WalletHub compared 150 large U.S. cities based on 17 metrics that account for professional opportunities and quality of life.

. Tampa is the 22nd Best City to Find a Job
WalletHub ranked 150 large U.S. cities based on 17 metrics including job openings, median annual income, employee benefits, unemployment rate and housing affordability.

General Tampa Area

Today, Tampa is part of the metropolitan area most commonly referred to as the Tampa Bay Area. For U.S. Census purposes, Tampa is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The four-county area is composed of roughly 2.9 million residents, making it the second largest metropolitan statistical area (MSA) in the state, and the fourth largest in the Southeastern United States, behind Miami, Washington, D.C. and Atlanta.[14] The Greater Tampa Bay area has over 4 million residents and generally includes the Tampa and Sarasota metro areas.

Tampa Areas

The city is divided into many neighborhoods, many of which were towns and unincorporated communities annexed by the growing city. Generally, the city is divided into the following areas: Downtown Tampa, New Tampa, West Tampa, East Tampa, North Tampa, and South Tampa. Well-known neighborhoods include Ybor City, Forest Hills, Ballast Point, Sulphur Springs, Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights, Palma Ceia, Hyde Park, Davis Islands, Tampa Palms, College Hill, and non-residential areas of Gary and the Westshore Business District.
